The Genesis of a Natural Union, Inspired by Nature and Collectivity

Driven by renewed momentum and a bold, colorful identity, Maison Canard-Duchêne unveiled last May its exclusive collaboration with artistic duo Pangea, whose joyful and optimistic poetry draws inspiration from the Maison’s history and environment through a multi-stage narrative.

LThe meeting between Champagne Canard-Duchêne and Pangea goes far beyond a visual project: it embodies a true dialogue between the heritage and craftsmanship of a Maison de Champagne and the poetic, purpose-driven universe of an engaged artistic duo.

This encounter gave birth to an in situ artwork, a dialogue between the Estate and its ecosystem, later translated into two Limited Edition Champagnes. A creative universe designed to celebrate Nature, the collective spirit, and the pursuit of balance.

Meet an Engaged Artistic Duo

Taking its name from the first and only continent that once united all peoples, Pangea brings together artists Laëtitia Rouget and Colombine Jubert. Through richly layered textile works, the duo crafts its own utopia—an oneiric projection toward a gentle and harmonious future. Each creation reflects a fragment of this imagined world, proposing new ways of living rooted in joy and optimism.

Since 2020, Pangea has expressed its ideal through textile art, design, installations, and performances. This collaborative, visionary approach echoes the origins of the Maison itself, founded in 1868 by Léonie Duchêne, a winemaker, and Victor Canard, a barrel maker.

The encounter between the Maison and the duo was also shaped by shared commitments and a deep connection to Nature. As members of the Greenline Foundation—an organization that promotes art to protect and preserve forests—Laëtitia and Colombine view Nature as a source of wonder, renewal, and endless inspiration. A natural alignment emerged with Maison Canard-Duchêne, which has been committed to environmental initiatives for more than 15 years. Since 2021, its partnership with Reforest’Action has enabled the planting of more than 50,000 trees in the Champagne region.

Behind the Scenes: A Collaborative Creative Process

Before taking shape, the Canard-Duchêne x Pangea collaboration was built over time through meaningful exchanges and shared reflection around common values. A creative process rooted in highlighting each other’s craftsmanship and infusing meaning into every detail.

Following a visit to the Ludes Estate, a tour of the Canard-Duchêne cellars, and conversations with the Maison’s teams, the artists quickly captured the essence and DNA of the Maison de Champagne while drawing inspiration from its unique environment.

Their artistic approach—both sensitive and narrative—brings a contemporary perspective, translating emotions into shapes, colors, and patterns.

This is how “Equilibrium,” the cornerstone of the collaboration, was born. The artwork takes the form of an arch composed of a patchwork and embroidered tapestry featuring a Tree of Life whose roots merge with the human hand, symbolizing harmony and our connection to Nature. Its powerful symbolism and vibrant colors quickly resonated with both the artists and the Maison, and the first sketches began to come to life.

The Birth of Equilibrium

The artwork embodies the balance that nourishes the meaningful bonds we create—between earth and sky, nature and humanity—from the planted seed and its roots to the fruit and the crafting of each cuvée. Harmony is always a matter of equilibrium.

The arch becomes both sanctuary and home, symbolizing a welcoming place and a unifying alliance. Beneath it stands a Tree of Life whose roots transform into hands, representing the work of the women and men of the Maison. At its summit, a weather vane of swirling bubbles around a sun-star evokes the idea that perfect harmony is achieved through cooperation. The artists used bold colors inspired by the Canard-Duchêne universe: green reflecting the Maison’s signature color and the lush surroundings of the Estate, complemented by sky blue and sunlit yellow. An authentic dialogue between the Estate and its ecosystem.

Within the arch, a poetic signature appears, inspired by the soul of Maison Canard-Duchêne: « Cet indéfinissable lien qui nous unit et tisse la trame de notre Histoire » wich means " This indefinable bond that unites us and weaves the fabric of our story", echoing our authentic purpose.

After hours of cutting and embroidery in Pangea’s Paris studio, Equilibrium was mounted onto a custom metal arch and installed in the gardens of the Ludes Estate in May 2025. The Maison thus became an open-air exhibition space, inviting visitors to discover the first expressions of this artistic collaboration.

Those venturing into the cellars discovered a second chapter: two monumental embroidered banners stretching over 20 meters, inspired by neo-heraldic emblems, each illustrating one of the Maison’s pillars.

Since last autumn, this monumental installation has also become the new home of the Equilibrium arch, now featured along the cellar tour.

Two Limited Editions to Brighten the Year-End Season

The poetic narrative surrounding Equilibrium also inspired two original creations centered on Canard-Duchêne Champagnes. Both Limited Editions were designed as natural extensions of this creative encounter.

Champagne Canard-Duchêne - Edition Limitée Pangea

For the first edition, the Pangea duo designed vibrant packaging and a gift case embodying the collaboration’s core symbols: the Tree of Life and its roots evoking the bond between humanity and Nature, and the radiant sun bringing light and brilliance. This design adorns a Champagne specially crafted for the occasion.

Champagne Canard-Duchêne - Edition Limitée Furoshiki Pangea

For the second Limited Edition, the artists imagined an exclusive textile creation for the iconic Léonie Iconic cuvée, paying tribute to the duo’s signature medium. This square fabric delicately wraps the bottle using the furoshiki technique—the traditional Japanese art of folding and knotting cloth—and draws inspiration from the Equilibrium artwork with its vivid colors. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the fabric offers a more responsible packaging approach, designed for multiple reuses—as a scarf, wrap, ribbon, or decorative textile.

A final meeting point between the worlds of Maison Canard-Duchêne and the Pangea duo, uniting two forms of craftsmanship.

A Story That Continues

Following the installation of the artwork and the launch of the Limited Editions, the Canard-Duchêne x Pangea collaboration continues to unfold at the heart of the Ludes Estate through the eyes of its visitors. This alliance between art and Champagne—where every gesture, color, and line reflects both the artists’ sensitivity and the Maison’s standards—invites reflection on harmony between people and our bond with Nature.

The Canard-Duchêne x Pangea story also lives on through those who have purchased, gifted, or tasted the Limited Editions and preserved their memory. And for those who have yet to experience them, a limited number of bottles are still available.
