Cheer up! Winter is here, and well and truly here. This season has no equal when it comes to taking us from one temperature to another in a single day.
A great provider of sensations, winter knows how to give us a great invigorating slap in the morning as well as plunge us into a gentle torpor in the evening, comfortably installed in front of a good fireplace with a glass of champagne in hand.
Night falls quickly in winter, and the days are short. So much the better, the evenings are only longer and lazier, especially when they are spent with family or friends around a rustic dish simmered for a long time and whose calories we don't care about.
The aperitif also takes place earlier, giving us a perfect excuse to start on the delicious mountain charcuterie accompanied by a glass of champagne. Who could blame us? Dinner takes on a very special proportion after a day of skiing on the powder, or hiking in the forest. After the effort, the comfort. Candles scattered on the coffee tables, warm and soft materials like small stages of softness within the house, the decoration sets the pace for the atmosphere.
The table is set with mismatched dishes. From ostentation, we have moved on to "no fuss". In Denmark, we call it "hygge" (pronounced Hugueu), a concept based on comforting the soul through the rediscovery of the simple pleasures of life. This philosophy, synonymous with a good time, is lived more than it is expressed. Perhaps we already practice "Hygge" without knowing it, this slow-motion lifestyle that suits the winter months so well when we take a break.
A positive withdrawal before the spring blossoms, but that is another story.
